Ayden’s First Oyster

One of my good friends invited me to Oyster Happy Hour at Hutchesons. I got to witness Ayden trying oysters for the first time, so I couldn’t decline such an invitation. I like oysters, and Hutchesons delivered both in terms of presentation and taste. (And price as it’s £1 per oyster during happy hour.)

We washed ’em down with cocktails. An amaretto sour and parma violet, to be specific. 10/10, will be back.

Ayden and Ashley’s Day Out in Glasgow

Ayden and I planned a fun day out. It involved food, a trip up the Lighthouse, bubble tea, a visit to the Gallery of Modern Art and dessert. Now that’s a perfect day.

It began with breakfast at Bill’s, which I had never been to. Bill’s has a nice backstory and avoided the big chain feel despite having restaurants dotted all over the UK. Ayden ordered blueberry pancakes and I had the vegetarian breakfast. If all vegetarian food was this satisfying, I’d give up steak. Maybe.

After Bill’s, we burned some calories by walking to the top of the Lighthouse and taking in the panoramic view of our beautiful city, Glasgow.

Ascending all those stairs was a thirsty job, so we stopped off at Tempo on Queen Street for bubble tea. This was just around the corner from the GoMA, which currently has a neon art installation adorning the front of the building titled We Love Real Life Scotland.

It was almost time to head home, but not before devouring dessert at another location I had never visited—JellyBear. Ayden asked for “the most ridiculous looking dessert on the menu” and was handed a sundae with candyfloss in it.

I live-Instagrammed our day with my Eyefi, which—after a flaky start—has become my favourite toy.

Ayden, let’s do this all over again!

Ayden’s Ink

In the short time I’ve known Ayden, her hair has changed colour from brunette to pink, blonde to blue. But one thing has remained the same—Ayden is covered in colourful tattoos. I photographed (some of) them.

Ayden’s Henna

My friend, Ayden, is always doing interesting and colourful things to her body. Tattoos, blue hair, piercings, henna…

Sometimes, I wish I could be brave like Ayden and alter my appearance. I’ve never changed my hair and I don’t have a single piercing! I’m so vanilla.

Ayden and Dexter

Thanks for lunch, Ayden. And Dexter, whilst you’re the most handsome cat I know, I’d like you even better if you gave me cuddles. Instead you sit there, aloof, looking pretty but really not giving a shit.

Ayden at Bellahouston Park

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I met this girl. We’ve managed to get pretty close over that year, and I’d now consider Ayden a good friend. She knows my secrets. She also lets me turn a casual hot chocolate and stroll in the park into some kind of photoshoot, because, admittedly, it has been a while since I’ve really shot for myself. I want to get back into it, and this impromptu session reminded me just how much I love having my camera by my side.

Ayden Gets Inked

I had mentioned to Ayden a while back it would be fun to photograph her getting tattooed, and so – after a weights session at the gym and before I headed back to work – I popped into Timeless Tattoo for 20 minutes and did just that. I’ve never seen anyone get a tattoo before. I’m not interested in having one myself, but I generally quite like them on others. It struck me how much pain poor Ayden was in. She’s a bit of a veteran when it comes to tattoos, and I had gathered some people even like the pain. I like Ayden’s new tattoo because it reminds me of Bioshock.

Preppy Ayden at Glasgow University

We only had 30 minutes on the parking meter, so this was a hurried, casual but fun shoot on the grounds of Glasgow University. Glasgow Uni is a Hogwarts style building, which I think is a large part of its appeal for many students. I had seen other photographers use the Undercroft and decided – very last minute – I would scout it out and use it for myself. It just so happened Ayden was dressed a bit preppy at the time, so everything worked out quite nicely (I love it when a shoot comes together). However, after 20 minutes the heavens opened and we decided to settle for a burger instead. I’ll definitely be returning to this spot. I totally felt like Rory Gilmore.

Ayden Appreciation Post

How cute is Ayden! So cute I had to make a montage.

Ayden and the Gingerbread Man

Ayden and I kick-started the Christmas spirit with a fun afternoon in Glasgow. It began with a deluxe hot chocolate at St Enoch square’s Christmas market. Seeing as we are both in agreement that sweet and savoury have separate compartments in your belly, we then headed for lunch at Lebowskis on Argyle Street (yeah, we sort of did things the wrong way round), before finishing our day at Ashton Lane during golden hour – only my favourite hour of the day.

I met Ayden a couple of months ago at the Next night in Blythswood Hotel, but it turns out we both love food and know some of the same folk. Make sure to check out Ayden’s UK lifestyle blog and give her brownie points for naming her cat Dexter.
