Edinburgh

Nipped through to Edinburgh this weekend seeing as it’s less than an hour from where I now live, and I had to drop off secret files to my sister on a secret hard drive like a secret agent. Yeah. We had a sisterly couple of days together where we did more shots for our fashion blog (which I’ll be updating early next week) and had lunch at Frederick’s Coffee House on Frederick Street.

Okay, let me tell you about this coffee shop… They do white hot chocolate and white mochas, which you just have to try because white chocolate is the best chocolate. The food is good, too (next time I’ma get some cake). And the colour of the walls is the colour I’ve bought for my living room. Yaldi.

Mar Hall

A random evening spent slightly outwith my comfort zone, in the company of many a rich man looking to source a new Range Rover, with free champagne on tap and canopies I couldn’t pronounce. Welcome to the unveiling of the new Range Rover. I tagged along with my friend, neither of us looking to buy a car, but both of us looking forwards to the fashion show (and the free champagne on tap and canopies I couldn’t pronounce).

All these shots were snapped from the comfort of my own seat amongst the crowd. Not from laziness, but because I love the spectator’s perspective of the fashion show.

Firepie

Gary, Gary, Gary. Are you sick of seeing Gary’s face yet? ‘Cos there are still a few days left with him until he flies to the other side of the world for his 3 month tour with the Chilli Pipers. Seriously, there aren’t many people I can spend a great deal of time with, but Gary is one of them. I will miss him, but I’m sure the 3 months will pass quickly. When he returns it will be Christmas! I will almost be 25! Shit.

Gary’s Face

Hah, Gary wanted to do some close-up head shots on Friday night. We actually did a few of me as well, but it was so weird seeing my face straight on, no expression, flaws emphasised (didn’t help it was shot with L series glass, huh?).

Rebecca Neilson

This is from the shoot I did a couple of weeks ago in Glasgow, just off of George Square, with my sister as a stylist and Rebecca Neilson modelling. An alternative shot is on my Flickr. Seriously can’t get enough of shooting in Glasgow on the street, so many nice streets and alleys. People are generally pretty friendly too, unlike when I used to shoot back on the West Coast.

Bax-Street Blog: Street Style

We’re back with the next entry in our Bax Street Blog, where we stop people in the street with an interesting style and take a picture. We ventured back into the City Centre of Glasgow, which seemed to be an especially busy day. As usual, Carolyn did the style spotting and I took the pictures. A few people have said they’d quite fancy some male fashion too. Never say never.

The River 68’s

Yesterday I got to meet The River 68’s, thanks to one of my pals doing their photos and of course asking me along. I felt like I was walking around Glasgow with a modern Led Zeppelin — look at their hair! Seriously, really nice guys and their music is great as well. They’re playing this Saturday at Captain’s Rest in the West End.

Friends

I rarely invite friends round on a school night, preferring to reserve weeknights for my workload, but last night we decided to get together at mine, cook some dinner and bake cakes. It was the funniest night I’ve had in a long time. This morning I awoke feeling so relaxed and content, and I can either put it down to all the laughs I had the night before, or the cake (cupcakes and banana bread).

So, this is what happens when a bunch of friends get together at mine, minus alcohol, and have a pair of 3D glasses lying around…

Freckly Shoulders

If you’ve followed me enough on any of the outlets I use to talk about photography, you’ll have noticed I’m trying to understand shooting with off-camera flash. I think the light in this photo is well balanced enough, but it doesn’t look anything special. I’ve been beating myself up lately, laying in my bed with my laptop when I should be sleeping, looking at photos the strobist masters have shot, and wondering how it looks so amazing when mine look so ordinary. Hah.

Bax-Street Blog: Street Style

We’re back with the next entry in our Bax Street Blog, where we stop people in the street with an interesting style and take a picture. We took to the West End of Glasgow this time, which, ultimately, wasn’t the greatest idea I’ve ever had with how quiet it was on a Tuesday lunchtime. Still, I’m always so surprised by how friendly some of the girls we stop are, even if they decline to have their picture taken.

Over the next few weeks we will be taking to Edinburgh and seeing what the fashion is like there.
