Gillian and Chris at Sheildhill Castle

Another lucky day on the weather front with Chris and Gillian’s wedding in Biggar, but it meant another day of chasing the shade around the castle gardens!

I turned up nice and early, easing myself into the day as the girl’s got ready. Usually I feel quite rushed at weddings, but with Chris and Gillian’s relaxed attitude the pace of the day felt just right.

We didn’t spend long on portraits, but I’m really happy with what we did get. For a couple who hate having their photo taken, my camera certainly loved them!

Glasgow Coffee Festival

After missing it last year, I was eager to attend Glasgow Coffee Festival and sample a lot of caffeine. I’m not as tough as I had thought—3 coffees and I was in desperate need of some water. I had two long blacks from Riverhill Coffee Bar and Terrone, and a flat white from Meadow Road. Oh, and carrot cake.

It was the perfect autumn day.

Katherine and James at Fingask Castle

I’ve been quiet! I’ve been busy shooting weddings every weekend of September. The first was Katherine and James’ wedding at Fingask Castle in Perth.

I won’t lie, with them both being photographers (James’ work, Katherine’s work) I was nervous about photographing this wedding. Obviously there is always a sense of pressure, but even more so when they are such talented photographers!

We were up against some harsh light on the day, but we chased the shade around the beautiful gardens of Fingask Castle.

There were a lot of personal touches at this wedding, which is what a celebration of this kind should be about. I came away from it feeling like I knew Katherine and James, and hoping we can keep in touch and I can visit them if I ever find myself in their area of Canada (yes, they organised a wedding in Scotland all the way from Canada!).

Gran’s 83rd Birthday

My Gran had a bad fall. We were all set to head to Mar Hall for afternoon tea (my favourite place for cake, coffee and sandwiches!), but at 83 the fall badly impacted her back. As a result, we celebrated my Gran’s 83rd birthday from her house.

There was still cake. Chocolate. And I got to see my nephew, Blake. Any day that involves chocolate cake and my nephew is a good day. Happy birthday, Gran.

Ayden’s Ink

In the short time I’ve known Ayden, her hair has changed colour from brunette to pink, blonde to blue. But one thing has remained the same—Ayden is covered in colourful tattoos. I photographed (some of) them.

Baby Blake

Once a week I will drive through to Edinburgh to spend the day with my nephew, Blake. Yesterday we visited Craigmillar Castle, Blake’s first history trip! Doesn’t he look happy?

Bumbag

Ayden has such an interesting approach to fashion. I mean, she is wearing a bumbag in these photos. Remember those?

I, on the other hand, am guilty of never trying anything different when it comes to fashion, and I’m becoming increasingly lazier. It’s not uncommon for me to wear my gym gear to work.

I’m envious whenever I see Ayden, with her colourful clothes, hair and tattoos.

Family

Yesterday, I visited the seaside town of South Queensferry for the first time. It’s a quaint village on the outskirts of Edinburgh, populated with ice cream parlours and colourful houses.

My family met for lunch to celebrate my Dad’s 10 year anniversary. Maybe ‘celebrate’ is the wrong word, but I think we’re all glad it was a decade ago and the feelings of grief have left us, and so many positive changes have happened since then.

I feel GOOD, guys.

The Wilson Street Pantry

I love a deli. I recently discovered The Wilson Street Pantry in Merchant City. Its iced coffee and coolers lured me in on a hot day, and I returned this evening for the wine, deli board and chocolate brownie. Both Lindsay and I left feeling stuffed.

Friendly staff, lovely food, nice light. 10/10.

Treats From Joli

I’d much rather spend my money on gadgets than clothes. These gadgets are my livelihood, so I better take good care of them. But I haven’t always felt that way. In fact, I used to be pretty careless with my ‘stuff’.

My last laptop had a nasty dent on it from dropping it during a Skype call, and my previous iPhone had its screen replaced 3 times (within 4 months, might I add). It was time to invest in a beautiful iPhone and laptop case.

The smooth collection from Joli caught my eye—particularly the brown leather with aqua lining. They arrived this morning alongside a handwritten note. I love them!
