West End Festival

Unbeknownst to me, today was the West End festival held in Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park. I had arranged to meet my friend there to walk our dogs, but it turned out to be a bit of a nightmare for dog walking because of how busy it was. On the other hand, I had struck gold with my camera as I love nothing more than being unleashed upon an unsuspecting crowd with my 135mm. With that said, I didn’t get to do much ninja snapping with a dog as demanding as mine, but it looks like the festival returns to Kelvingrove Park later in the month with cinema screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Amazing!

Friday Night Glow

It was the first peep of sun we’d had in a month or so, or at least it felt that way. This could only mean one thing; a Friday night sesh on the terrace. There’s something really beautiful about the golden light the sun casts as it sets, and it always always always urges me to get my camera out. Always. Fortunately for me, my friends know that having a camera in their face is a given when you hang with me.

I also made a golden hour montage, which I uploaded to Flickr.

Yo! Sushi

I had a really enjoyable lunch at Yo! Sushi the other day. As much as I like that place, I usually find it too busy and polluted with noise, but we seemed to find a reasonable time to eat (just after 1pm on a Monday). I think I’m borderline addicted to sushi, though there could be worse foods to crave I guess. Anyway, the format of Yo! Sushi suits my appetite; I like the small dishes you can choose as you please and pick at. I wasn’t overly impressed with the pancakes though. Oh, and the lighting is awful for photos!

Glasgow Skyline

I had been wanting to visit Glasgow’s Lighthouse since I moved back here. It basically gives you a 360 degree vantage point of the city. Here’s one of the shots I took. Glasgow isn’t pretty, but I love it.

Om Nom. Nom.

Food. Food. Food. I love food, maybe a little too much. I’ve done a little bit of exploring over the past few days, visiting a few of the coffee shops on Finnieston Street in Glasgow with Mark. There are some really interesting options there, for example a vintage shop / cafe combo that I was too intimidated to drink in (it was dark and quiet and… odd). There were lots of tasty cupcakes on offer elsewhere, but I managed to resist them ALL, preferring to photograph them instead (cupcakes are really photogenic, don’t you know).

Lookbook

A lookbook is a collection of photographs compiled to show off a model, a photographer, a style, or a clothing line. It is an especially popular term with “fashion bloggers” and is even the name of a website: (Lookbook.nu). — Wikipedia

So pissed the focus on the face is soft, I think my shutter speed was too slow. Anyway, this is an Armani jacket complimented with a scruffy face. Beards FTW.

Twin Atlantic @ The Barras

The Twin Atlantic gig was incredible. w00t. Yep.

ISO 6400

Meet Sean, being shot in The Social at ISO 6400 while I was a tad drunk. I have a noise reducing plug-in for Aperture, but I honestly think the grain suits some images. Plus, this was shot at ƒ1.4 and the focus isn’t great. If I had removed the noise it would have looked even softer. I don’t think Sean likes this photo of himself, but look at that smile!

Sloan Street Market

I am loving all these wee street markets Glasgow has to offer. This one was based just off one of Glasgow’s busiest streets, Buchanan Street. I’m definitely not into my jewelry, but they had so much quirky stuff that I ended up buying a camera necklace. It’s hot.

Hippy Fest at 13th Note

Hippy Fest; a bunch of people sitting on the dingy floor of a stinking music venue, enjoying the acoustic sounds from their friends and new acts alike. I took my Speedlite to this one knowing how dark the venue would be, but I gave it to my friend who’s camera could only stretch to ISO 1,600. This was more like a 6,400 job.

Admittance was the cost of a hug, the floor was wet where I happened to sit, but I got to see a lot of the people I spent my college years with. Too much time passes before I see these guys, and I’m not entirely sure why.

On my way there, however, I was accosted by a “spiritual” man who claimed he could tell we would make “the best couple”. After I politely refused his offer, he got quite physical with me and claimed that as he was a man, he could get what he wants. Well gentlemen, there’s something you should know about me… I am the boss, ok? And you’re not getting what you want, pal.
