Black Sparrow

Yesterday evening was interesting as I went for dinner with Emma, who I haven’t seen for a couple of years. We caught up over a burger at Black Sparrow (we both had the, well, Black Sparrow – cheddar and jalapeños). Afterwards, Mark joined us, and him and I partook in the Black Sparrow music quiz. We came joint last with another team. This doesn’t bother me too much, but Mark is a music producer!

Also… ISO 6,400!

Football Faces

I watched the England vs Italy match in Maggie Mays with Big Ry, Wee Ry and Reid. I shot these at ISO 6,400 (minus the outdoor one, naturally) on the MKIII. I left the noise untouched in post-pro so you can see how the MKIII fairs at high ISO. S’alright.

And the football, yeah. Well, with my mum’s boyfriend being from Sheffield, I was rooting for England to win. This is unusual for a Scot and the whole pub seemed behind Italy. I’m not a big football fan at all, though, but I am enjoying catching the occasional game.

Afterwards we gatecrashed a 21st Birthday party at 13th Note. It was bizarre. I’m looking forward to work in the morning. It’s just past midnight and I am going to stop talking now.

Chris Russell

Last night I went to the open-mic night at The Libertine in the Merchant City. I never partake in open-mic nights, but my interesting friend Gary – who also has lots of interesting friends – invited me along. It feels like it’s been a while since I’ve taken my camera to one of these things, mainly because I know the lighting is always going to be dire, but sometimes ISO 6400 just works.

An alternative is on my Flickr.

ISO 6400

Meet Sean, being shot in The Social at ISO 6400 while I was a tad drunk. I have a noise reducing plug-in for Aperture, but I honestly think the grain suits some images. Plus, this was shot at ƒ1.4 and the focus isn’t great. If I had removed the noise it would have looked even softer. I don’t think Sean likes this photo of himself, but look at that smile!
