Argyll Forestry

After spending most of last Summer distracted, I made a conscious decision to really embrace this Summer and lose myself in many outdoor activities. And so, with the proposed weather of  18°, a couple of friends and I went to Argyll Forestry for a mammoth Sunday morning walk, following it up with a pub lunch by the sea. It was the most perfect Sunday I’ve had in a long time; great weather, good company, nature and stodgy food.

Prague, You Dark Horse, You

When my mother and her boyfriend booked a romantic getaway to Prague, I figured I should gatecrash their efforts and join them. It was our first family holiday in something ridiculous like a decade, and since I started flying again, I’ve been eager to go as many places as I can. This year I really want to focus on work and traveling to European cities for long weekends. Fun!

Anyway, nothing could have prepared me for Prague. I’m not talking about the -15 weather, but just the way it looked – like a real life Disneyland! I’ll let the pictures do the talking, but I doubt even they will do it justice.

There are a few more on my Flickr not included in this set.

My 25th Birthday

I have to admit, I wasn’t overly excited about turning 25. Quite the opposite, in fact. For as long as I can remember – because somebody told me so – 25 is the age I’ve associated with slowing metabolism and ageing skin. It’s all very dramatic. In the end, though, my friend Gary said “What’s so bad about turning 25? You’ve got good friends, you don’t have a broken heart, and you’re in good shape”, and he was absolutely right.

I thought long and hard about how I wanted to celebrate my birthday; go-karting? Ice cream? My favourite meal of mashed potatos with mashed potatos and mashed potatos? In the end I settled on a road trip, because I love nothing more than exploring with my camera. So we filled the tank with petrol, put The Beatles on repeat, bought a ton of sugary foods and headed to Fort Augustus in the Scottish Highlands. Magic.

Straight Up Selfy

This is my last straight up self-portrait for 2011. Honestly, I feel like 2011 passed in the blink of an eye, but in reality a lot happened. I moved to the city, took up strength training, went to College, proved that I am not human, and lots and lots of other things. With 2012 approaching – which I’ll be spending the beginning of in Dublin – my mind has of course turned to where I am with my photography.

I want to take more pictures in 2012. I want to take more, better pictures in 2012. I want to practice strobist photography, and I want to do a lot more traveling with my camera (and not be so lazy with …

Hurricane Bawbag

This is what kind of day it was yesterday. It may not look like it from the beautiful light in my apartment, but outside Hurricane Bawbag was brewing. Here’s a picture of it right outside my house. I took Indie out a couple of times yesterday, none of which ended particularly well. Let’s just say I was glad to have the privilege of working from home, therefore hiding inside for most of the day.

Casual Pal

I don’t know why, but I took the notion to play with texture. Based on the result I probably won’t be trying again any time soon (or how about I practice more and get better? I don’t want to be as defeatist as everyone else). I took this with my Speedlite. Do I get points for using my Speedlite? I think I should. n00b!

Durrr…

Playing with my flash against the white wall again, and silly faces. I look especially stupid in this one. Anyway, I have a big shoot next week to help with my sister’s new line of dresses she’s designed. It will be in Glasgow’s Corinthian, and I’m going to break out the 430EXII and pwn that ambient / strobist balance I never seem to get. Can’t wait!

Lookbook

A lookbook is a collection of photographs compiled to show off a model, a photographer, a style, or a clothing line. It is an especially popular term with “fashion bloggers” and is even the name of a website: (Lookbook.nu). — Wikipedia

A red dress from a boutique in Edinburgh. Red is my favourite colour and I think this looks quite 60’s. I’d love to have the balls to team it with over the knee socks, but I think they can look a bit OTT. Nipped in with a thin black belt and a wistful look out the window.

Mar Hall

A random evening spent slightly outwith my comfort zone, in the company of many a rich man looking to source a new Range Rover, with free champagne on tap and canopies I couldn’t pronounce. Welcome to the unveiling of the new Range Rover. I tagged along with my friend, neither of us looking to buy a car, but both of us looking forwards to the fashion show (and the free champagne on tap and canopies I couldn’t pronounce).

All these shots were snapped from the comfort of my own seat amongst the crowd. Not from laziness, but because I love the spectator’s perspective of the fashion show.

Friends

I rarely invite friends round on a school night, preferring to reserve weeknights for my workload, but last night we decided to get together at mine, cook some dinner and bake cakes. It was the funniest night I’ve had in a long time. This morning I awoke feeling so relaxed and content, and I can either put it down to all the laughs I had the night before, or the cake (cupcakes and banana bread).

So, this is what happens when a bunch of friends get together at mine, minus alcohol, and have a pair of 3D glasses lying around…
