Glasgow Characters

These are some of the characters I came across in Glasgow today, which was very busy because Brad Pitt is filming his latest movie in George Square. Blah blah, if you’re from Glasgow you’ll actually be sick of hearing about it. If you’re inGlasgow you can’t help but gravitate towards the set, which has seen George Square convert into Philadelphia. I dunno, it’s interesting for us Brits to see the funny traffic lights and big, American trucks. We’re easily amused.

Bax-Street Blog: Street Style

My sister and I have been wanting to collaborate on something for a while, marrying my love of photography with Carolyn’s eye for fashion. This is the first in our street style blog, which we’ve named Bax-Street Blog (our surname is Baxter, how witty are we?). We’ll be mainly taking to the streets of Glasgow where we’ll photograph some of the styles that capture our attention.

Glasgow is a stylish city, but the difference in fashion from the City Centre and West End is palpable. Our first outing saw us on one of Glasgow’s busiest streets for shopping, Buchanan Street, right in the heart of the city. Tomorrow we’ll be spending an hour or so in the West End of Glasgow. Feedback appreciated!

Friends Outside ABC

Popped along to the ABC 2 last night to catch my friend’s band play. To be honest the lighting in the venue was shite. I mean ISO 12,800 kind of shite. Anyway, Johnny And The Bomb (my friend’s band) are playing next Thursday (18th of August) in Pivo Pivo if you fancy them. They’re getting good feedback but are brand new on the scene.

Glasgow

A girly day shopping in Glasgow with my sister, Carolyn. On my agenda was a new camera bag, more like a rucksack than the ‘off the shoulder’ one I currently have. However, the staff in Jessops jump all over you and it put me off buying anything if I’m honest. Wouldn’t it be great to have a camera shop managed by photographers, not salesmen?

Merchant City Music Festival

Once a year you can find the Merchant City music festival happening in, well, the Merchant City of Glasgow. Stalls with foods from all around the world, several stages with music and drama acts, but most importantly a crowd of adverse people good for photographing. The good looking guy riding the bike, the woman dressed as a fish, the cute kid skipping past the camera, the couple having a moment, the father and son walking home with a new video game, the recluse taking time out to listen to music in the last remaining spot of sunshine, blah blah.

Debora Buckie

This was the first shoot I’ve ever done in the city, or in any streets for that matter, and I loved it. Perhaps not surprisingly with a model as gorgeous as Debora dressed in a bold, red dress, we garnered a lot of attention. From cars driving past multiple times so they could catch a glimpse, to men approaching and asking for their photograph to be taken on their mobile phones. Pretty crazy, but I definitely want to use the streets of Glasgow as a backdrop again fo’ sho.

X Factor Auditions and Tapas

Just a few minutes from my house Gary Barlow and the like were auditioning folk for the upcoming X Factor. Indie and I took a wee wonder over with the camera for some crowd shots. Afterwards I had a meeting in the city, followed by an amazing lunch in Tapella with Gary and his musician pal, Ian Thomson (oh, not Gary Barlow). Gary’s just returned from his German tour, but only for 2 days as he’s back on the road this Wednesday. Thanks for lunch, Gary!

West End Festival

Unbeknownst to me, today was the West End festival held in Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park. I had arranged to meet my friend there to walk our dogs, but it turned out to be a bit of a nightmare for dog walking because of how busy it was. On the other hand, I had struck gold with my camera as I love nothing more than being unleashed upon an unsuspecting crowd with my 135mm. With that said, I didn’t get to do much ninja snapping with a dog as demanding as mine, but it looks like the festival returns to Kelvingrove Park later in the month with cinema screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Amazing!

Lookbook

A lookbook is a collection of photographs compiled to show off a model, a photographer, a style, or a clothing line. It is an especially popular term with “fashion bloggers” and is even the name of a website: (Lookbook.nu). — Wikipedia

A stylish grey and white fur coat complimented with a red harness and piercing blue eyes. Can you say fierce? I took a photo of this girl’s sister and posted it on my Flickr.

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday and not a chocolate egg in sight, but I did have a great day outdoors in the West End of Glasgow. We turned up late to a charity bike rally, so late in fact there were no more than six bikes left. This was followed by lunch at The Loft, which reminded me of the underwater world, Rapture, in Bioshock (that’s the gamer geek coming out in me).

There was a street market happening in Ashton Lane offering cupcakes, vintage clothes and the like. I do love Ashton Lane with its cobbled street and cool bars, good restaurants etc. It has a great vibe. This was the Ashton Lane Street Market in its first week, so I hope to see it pick up steam and perhaps come back for better photos.
