Happy Birthday, Blake

I can’t believe it’s been a year since Blake, my nephew, was born. For his 1st birthday we took him to Edinburgh Zoo. He looked inquisitively at the animals, crying when they’d get too close. I love this little boy so much. 11 days until we go to Florida on a family holiday…

Special People

On Thursday I bought a lens. The first lens I’ve bought in 4 years! I now own Canon’s L series 24mm ƒ1.4. I don’t normally like wide lenses, but I find ’em handy for weddings and I’m way too comfortable with the 50mm.

I took a couple of test shots at my gran’s house, which turned out to be quite special as I caught her happily interacting with my nephew, Blake, after being upset about her ill health. I love my family.

Blake’s First Christmas

It’s exciting having a baby in the family at this time of the year. It’s my nephew’s first Christmas, and it just so happens I’m hosting the celebrations at my house this year.

We’re waving good bye to our tradition of spending Christmas at my mother’s house in Inverkip. It works better for everyone being at mine in Glasgow. My Gran is ill and can no longer get up and down stairs (my building has an elevator) and Carolyn is splitting time between her fiance’s family in Edinburgh and our family in Glasgow.

At first I was feeling daunted, but now I’m looking forward to welcoming everyone with a mulled wine.

Gran’s 83rd Birthday

My Gran had a bad fall. We were all set to head to Mar Hall for afternoon tea (my favourite place for cake, coffee and sandwiches!), but at 83 the fall badly impacted her back. As a result, we celebrated my Gran’s 83rd birthday from her house.

There was still cake. Chocolate. And I got to see my nephew, Blake. Any day that involves chocolate cake and my nephew is a good day. Happy birthday, Gran.

Baby Blake

Once a week I will drive through to Edinburgh to spend the day with my nephew, Blake. Yesterday we visited Craigmillar Castle, Blake’s first history trip! Doesn’t he look happy?

Malia’s New Friend

Tomorrow is a huge day for the Baxter clan. We welcome my nephew into the family. I can’t wait to meet him, although it still doesn’t seem real yet. We’re a small, fairly close family and this is the first baby to come along, so it’s a pretty big deal for us and we’re all very excited.

This is Malia, my sister’s dog. I’m not sure how Malia will handle no longer being the centre of attention. I’ll still make a point of photographing her funny face, but I definitely anticipate a lot of baby photos appearing on this blog.
