Glasgow’s Gallery of Modern Art

A reflection of Glasgow’s Royal Exchange Square in a pair of sunglasses, in particular the Gallery of Modern Art. I’m loving this warm weather we’re experiencing. This was taken while enjoying some al fresco Mojitos yesterday afternoon at The Social.

Kids

Life has been a bit heavy lately, it sure is tough being an adult. I look at this photo I took over the weekend and can’t help but feel nostalgia for the age where there were few responsibilities, any ‘problems’ were truly trivial (at least in my very relaxed childhood). Having said that, I wouldn’t give the independence of being an adult up for anything; even mornings watching Biker Mice from Mars and afternoons at the skate park.

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday and not a chocolate egg in sight, but I did have a great day outdoors in the West End of Glasgow. We turned up late to a charity bike rally, so late in fact there were no more than six bikes left. This was followed by lunch at The Loft, which reminded me of the underwater world, Rapture, in Bioshock (that’s the gamer geek coming out in me).

There was a street market happening in Ashton Lane offering cupcakes, vintage clothes and the like. I do love Ashton Lane with its cobbled street and cool bars, good restaurants etc. It has a great vibe. This was the Ashton Lane Street Market in its first week, so I hope to see it pick up steam and perhaps come back for better photos.

Early Summer Nights

These warm evenings are making me feel summery, even if it is only April. I can’t wait to get some garden furniture for my terrace and enjoy a few ice cold ciders out there. Last night, however, my friend Gary and I enjoyed dinner and Diet Cokes at Nando’s. Seriously, you can’t go wrong with a Nando’s, but a Nando’s at golden hour = perfection.

Girl With A Camera Giveaway

To celebrate the launch of my new blog, I wanted to give one lucky visitor a chance to win an A2 poster print of one of my pictures. Choosing which picture was tricky, but I decided to go with a recent shot of Glasgow’s Clyde at night. This shot has the BBC building, SECC’s Armadillo, Crowne Plaza hotel and Clydeport crane in it, with lovely reflections on the River Clyde that will look fantastic framed. Awww.

To be in with a chance to win, just tweet “Girl With A Camera is giving away an original print. I’m in, are you? http://girlwithacamera.co.uk/giveaway #gwac”. A winner will be chosen at random when the competition closes, which is Friday the 29th of April 2011, because it’s not all about the Royal Wedding.

Dog in a bag

I was walking my dog along Finnieston Street when two women enjoying a glass of wine made a fuss over her. This doesn’t generally happen to Indie. As cute as she is, she’s a mongrel and doesn’t garner much attention (especially in comparison to my sister’s pug). Anyway, it took me a while before I clocked this woman’s three month old puppy, Wilson… in a bag.

Glasgow Street Scenes

Today I met a friend for coffee (I always feel like it’s a ‘Dear Diary’ entry when I start off with “Today I…”). Since the sun was out we decided to get a take-away and head to George Square instead of sitting in our usual haunt. It was pretty busy with tourists and people on their lunch, so I tried my hand at capturing some of what happens in Glasgow on a Sunny, weekday lunch break.

The Aviator

It’s just a guy skating around in an aviation hat, that’s all.

Sunday in the West End

Today was one of those perfect Sundays; beautiful weather and an impromptu meet-up with a friend at Kelvingrove park. It’s strange, but walking a mere 15 minutes from my house makes me feel like I’m completely outwith Glasgow. Or at the very least it makes Glasgow feel less like a city. The real estate is completely different to the area I live in, I just found it all really charming.

Glasgow’s Clyde

Despite suffering from a head cold (or something), I dragged my camera and dog out in the rain to get just one shot. I had been wanting to shoot this for a while, and with it being on my doorstep I’ve had no reason not to. Plenty more Glasgow landmark shots to come, fo sho.
