This is Ben. He sits near me in Toad’s Caravan. He looks like the werewolf on his t-shirt. My biggest fear as a child was werewolves and I’d often have nightmares about them, but Ben doesn’t scare me.

I decided to revisit some of the blogs that inspired me to get into photography. I had some Twitter followers ask if I’d share them, so what follows is a list of the photographers I frequented when I first starting shooting. Maybe they’ll inspire you, too?
Navis Photography: Tim nails both landscape and portrait photography. Tell me how you do it, Tim. How I Met Your Style: Incredible fashion blog. Justin and Mary: A husband and wife, wedding photography duo. Keaton Andrew: Music photographer. No longer updated, but still a healthy archive to browse. Vow To Remember: More wedding photography. Ben Haisch: Senior portraits and weddings. I love his stuff. Nick Onken: Fashion.…Another January, another New Adventures in Web Design. I have attended this conference every year, and can safely say the third and final New Adventures was my favourite. The topics covered and how they were delivered inspired me, to say the least. I know a conference has been worth the expense if I’m itching to run home and create, which New Adventures did (and I’d be running almost 300 miles). My personal highlight of the conference was Wayne Hemingway’s talk.
Initially I was mildly displeased the conference fell on the day before my birthday. Did I really want to spend my 26th birthday driving home for 5 and a half hours to an empty house? Naw. I stayed an extra night and hoped there would still be familiar faces kicking about. Chloe, Andy, Stringer, Hughes, Jack Smith, Mark, Paige, Jack Osborne, Leckie and Robbie treated me to dinner at Bonzai, followed by cocktails at the Lace Market Hotel. I’m still very grateful for their kindness.
The photo walk was another highlight. Despite this being my third year visiting Nottingham, I hadn’t seen much of the city. I was surprised by how pretty it is. Of course, with my preferred subject matter being people, I spent the photo walk shooting the attendees as opposed to our surroundings.
All in all, a fantastic end to New Adventures in Web Design. Nottingham, you’re nice.
How cute is Ayden! So cute I had to make a montage.
I will never get bored of this drive, especially on days like this; low clouds, quiet road, dry weather. As much as I put up a fight at 17 about learning to drive, I’m glad my parents pushed me into doing so. There are few things I enjoy more than jumping in the car and strapping my camera into the seat next to me.
Hippy Fest; a bunch of people sitting on the dingy floor of a stinking music venue, enjoying the acoustic sounds from their friends and new acts alike. I took my Speedlite to this one knowing how dark the venue would be, but I gave it to my friend who’s camera could only stretch to ISO 1,600. This was more like a 6,400 job.
Admittance was the cost of a hug, the floor was wet where I happened to sit, but I got to see a lot of the people I spent my college years with. Too much time passes before I see these guys, and I’m not entirely sure why.
On my way there, however, I was accosted by a “spiritual” man who claimed he could tell we would make “the best couple”. After I politely refused his offer, he got quite physical with me and claimed that as he was a man, he could get what he wants. Well gentlemen, there’s something you should know about me… I am the boss, ok? And you’re not getting what you want, pal.
Life has been a bit heavy lately, it sure is tough being an adult. I look at this photo I took over the weekend and can’t help but feel nostalgia for the age where there were few responsibilities, any ‘problems’ were truly trivial (at least in my very relaxed childhood). Having said that, I wouldn’t give the independence of being an adult up for anything; even mornings watching Biker Mice from Mars and afternoons at the skate park.
