Day Out In Edinburgh

Ayden and I visited Edinburgh for a few hours and hit up Mary’s Milk Bar. I’ve heard a lot about this place and usually there’s a queue out of the door. Apparently, they make their own ice cream daily. With it being October, however, I opted for a ‘hot chocolate float’. The topping was mint choc chip. A very fattening day out!

Ayden’s First Oyster

One of my good friends invited me to Oyster Happy Hour at Hutchesons. I got to witness Ayden trying oysters for the first time, so I couldn’t decline such an invitation. I like oysters, and Hutchesons delivered both in terms of presentation and taste. (And price as it’s £1 per oyster during happy hour.)

We washed ’em down with cocktails. An amaretto sour and parma violet, to be specific. 10/10, will be back.

Puppies!

On Saturday I took a road trip to Dundee with Ayden. A 180 mile round trip to pick up Ayden’s new puppy, Bronson. Of course I had to take my camera.

Luna had just been collected by her new owner, leaving Olive, Max and Bronson (Ayden’s puppy). Max (the black puppy) is the runt of the litter. His back paws have fallen off to leave him with stumps, but he’s a beautiful pup and was walking about without any issue.

It was quite a challenge to visit a litter of French Bulldog puppies and leave empty handed. It’s safe to say I will now find any excuse to visit Ayden and Bronson!

Krispy Kreme Launch At Braehead, Glasgow

Imagine walking into Krispy Kreme and being told you can have an unlimited amount of anything you want, for free. That happened to me this evening.

Krispy Kreme has finally arrived in Glasgow (Braehead, to be precise). Yes, it’s overdue, but this evening’s VIP event more than made up for it.

As well as eating as many doughnuts as we’d like and drinking all the milkshakes our bellies could handle, we were given a tour of the kitchen and an insight into the process behind those delicious doughnuts.

Doughnuts are my kryptonite.

Thanks for the invite, Ayden.

Ayden and Ashley’s Day Out in Glasgow

Ayden and I planned a fun day out. It involved food, a trip up the Lighthouse, bubble tea, a visit to the Gallery of Modern Art and dessert. Now that’s a perfect day.

It began with breakfast at Bill’s, which I had never been to. Bill’s has a nice backstory and avoided the big chain feel despite having restaurants dotted all over the UK. Ayden ordered blueberry pancakes and I had the vegetarian breakfast. If all vegetarian food was this satisfying, I’d give up steak. Maybe.

After Bill’s, we burned some calories by walking to the top of the Lighthouse and taking in the panoramic view of our beautiful city, Glasgow.

Ascending all those stairs was a thirsty job, so we stopped off at Tempo on Queen Street for bubble tea. This was just around the corner from the GoMA, which currently has a neon art installation adorning the front of the building titled We Love Real Life Scotland.

It was almost time to head home, but not before devouring dessert at another location I had never visited—JellyBear. Ayden asked for “the most ridiculous looking dessert on the menu” and was handed a sundae with candyfloss in it.

I live-Instagrammed our day with my Eyefi, which—after a flaky start—has become my favourite toy.

Ayden, let’s do this all over again!

Ayden’s Ink

In the short time I’ve known Ayden, her hair has changed colour from brunette to pink, blonde to blue. But one thing has remained the same—Ayden is covered in colourful tattoos. I photographed (some of) them.

Bumbag

Ayden has such an interesting approach to fashion. I mean, she is wearing a bumbag in these photos. Remember those?

I, on the other hand, am guilty of never trying anything different when it comes to fashion, and I’m becoming increasingly lazier. It’s not uncommon for me to wear my gym gear to work.

I’m envious whenever I see Ayden, with her colourful clothes, hair and tattoos.

Ayden and Dexter

Thanks for lunch, Ayden. And Dexter, whilst you’re the most handsome cat I know, I’d like you even better if you gave me cuddles. Instead you sit there, aloof, looking pretty but really not giving a shit.

Video: @hellorogue Post-Processing Techniques

It’s been a while since my last video on post-processing, so I figured I would do another one from my recent set of photos of Ayden. In particular, the shot of Ayden laying on the ground in Autumn, which I’ve given a warm feel and applied a texture to. I’d appreciate your thoughts on this, so leave ’em in the comments!

Remember, there are no rules when it comes to post-processing. Play around, experiment, develop.

Ayden at Bellahouston Park

I can’t believe it’s been a year since I met this girl. We’ve managed to get pretty close over that year, and I’d now consider Ayden a good friend. She knows my secrets. She also lets me turn a casual hot chocolate and stroll in the park into some kind of photoshoot, because, admittedly, it has been a while since I’ve really shot for myself. I want to get back into it, and this impromptu session reminded me just how much I love having my camera by my side.
