My Office

Last year I started looking for an office to call my own because working from home was making me all kinds of crazy. Fast forward to now and I’ve moved into the top floor of the Axiom building with my buddies from Cinemate.

Eilidh and Chris’ Engagement

Let’s do an engagement shoot in Glencoe! In February! That was our plan until a weather warning was issued. It didn’t end up snowing, but it was wet and damp so we relocated our shoot to Luss.

Luss is a village on the bank of Loch Lomond. This area will look pretty even in the wind and rain. Eilidh and Chris braved the cold to get some beautiful shots of them before their wedding in May.

They were fun to photograph, so I’m looking forward to their wedding even more so now. Congrats, Chris and Eilidh.

First Week Back

I enjoy the first week back at work after the holidays. January is always a busy month, and this year is no exception. I have a project with work to tie up, and the inaugural Glasgow Photo Walk will be kicking off mid-month. My first wedding of the year is this weekend. Based in a remote part of Scotland, I’m looking forward to the scenic drive and overnight stay in a hotel. I also have a birthday to celebrate, although I’m undecided how I want to celebrate it. I’ve recently got back into gaming, so part of me wants to celebrate with a PlayStation 4. Lastly, I’ve been increasing my training this month for a 10 miler in April. I’ve …

Hamburger Jumper

Ally has a habit of wearing fast food jumpers. I’m already a fan of his chips jumper, and now I’ve arrived to the studio to find him in a hamburger jumper. What’s next? Bacon. I’m hoping bacon.

Ryan and Beth

When Ryan and Beth first approached me to photograph their wedding, I remember Ryan telling me it was going to be “really cool”. I wasn’t quite prepared for how cool. I think this is every wedding photographers’ dream; quirky venue (a teepee in the English countryside), beautiful couple, plentiful emotion amongst family and friends, and a striking attention to detail. It was difficult for me to whittle my photos from the day into a concise blog post, there was just so much to capture. I’m eternally grateful to Ryan and Beth for giving me the opportunity to be there, to be a part of their day. It was a wedding I’ll never forget.

Toad’s Caravan

After 8 years of working from home (and going crazy. If you meet me and my social skills are bad, you now know why), I’ve moved my work space into Toad’s Caravan; a creative collective tucked away in the heart of the West End on Ruthven Lane. There’s still available desk space if any of you freelancers in Glasgow are looking for a studio to work from alongside other creatives? Maybe we can be friends. Maybe we can fetch each other coffee. Maybe we can walk to work together. But you have to like my dog, because she comes to the studio with me every day.

An Afternoon Being Tourists

After spending two days in the office, Mark and I broke free to indulge in some tourist activities around London. We only had one day, which I thought would be enough to fit in a few London landmarks, but because the city is so huge we spent most of it commuting from one location to another. Or so it felt.

Whilst my fleeting jaunt around London wasn’t fruitful for photos, it has certainly been an invaluable visit business wise. It looks like I may be returning to the capital a lot more, so there’s hope for her growing on me yet.

That Smile

A couple of weekends back I traveled to my ex-hometown of Inverkip, where I photographed a young family and their newest addition. I’ve said it before, having never really been exposed to kids I feel I lack that ‘maternal’ instinct most women naturally have, but this kid made me melt when he smiled. He had the most infectious grin. And those baby Converse… Cutest. Thing. Ever.

I could never take a family into a studio and produce shots that I’m happy with. Instead I need to be able to tell them to sit their kid in the middle of the road and use the naturally, beautiful Scottish surroundings that we’re blessed with. I really enjoyed taking these photos.

Carolyn Visits

Carolyn, my sister, is letting her flat out during the Fringe festival, so she’s house hopping for the next month and will be through in Glasgow for a chunk of it. Everybody knows I like my own space (I’ve lived on my own for 7 years), so I find it really difficult having people in my home for lengthy periods of time. Further to that, we both work from home so have been in one another’s company allll day. Agh! Anyway, the nice thing about having my sister here is we can go for lunch and talk about business and I can take photos of her pretty face. So it ain’t all bad.

Coffee break at work

A much needed caffeine boost during my last shoot that I’ll be sharing with you soon.
